Jagjaguwar scores big; Signs Dinosaur Jr.

Man, did Jagjaguwar score a biggie. Dino big. That's right kiddies, the indie label whose roster includes Bon Iver, Okkervil River, Black Mountain and Parts & Labor can now add legends Dinosaur Jr to that list. The band is currently working on a brank new record and is hoping to release it sometime this summer.

Thanks to Pitchfork for dropping this exhilarating news!

Secretly Canadian releases Throw Me the Statue's Purpleface EP to the masses

Throw Me the Statue
had a solid year in 2008. The re-release of their first full length, Moonbeams, thanks to Secretly Canadian really helped them gain momentum in the hard time of the current music business. Now the label has chosen to unleash their follow up EP, which until now was only available at their live shows.

The Purpleface EP features three new tracks along with a revised version of the Moonbeams cut 'Writtenin Heart Signs, Faintly'. Even more importantly, the band is back in the studio gracefully cutting together a new album with famed producer Phil Ek behind the boards. Look for the record to hopefully hit shelves sometime this year.

Bridge & Tunnel release brand spankin' new track

One of my favorite hidden treasures of last year, Bridge & Tunnel, have recorded a new track a man does it freakin' rip!

The new track Loss Leaders, which can currently be heard here, will appear on a new Bridge & Tunnel 7 inch to be exclusively released in Germany on Yo Yo Records. The B-side of the record will contain a cover of Silent Majority's track No I'm Not.

Wanna finally get a chance to catch the band on the road? Look no further than here.

Conor Oberst & The Mystic Valley record #2 coming in May

Conor Oberst seems to be a busy, busy bee. While news of a new Bright Eyes album was in the process of recordings, Oberst instead pulled a fast one and officially released the specs on a new album instead from Conor Oberst and The Mystic Valley.

Outer South, the band's follow-up to 2008's self-titled debut, will street on May 5th once again courtesy of the fine folks at Merge Records.

Aside from from playing the Telluride Bluegrass Festival on June 18th, Conor Oberst and The Mystic Valley will also make the following stops on a mini-tour this April:

Thu-Apr-09 Omaha, NE Slowdown
Fri-Apr-10 Denver, CO Ogden Theatre
Sat-Apr-11 Aspen, CO Belly Up
Sun-Apr-12 El Paso, TX Barnett Harley Davidson (Hands of Love & Hope Benefit)
Mon-Apr-13 Albuquerque, NM Sunshine Theatre
Tue-Apr-14 Tempe, AZ Marquee Theatre
Wed-Apr-15 Pomona, CA Glass House
Fri-Apr-17 Indio, CA Coachella Music & Arts Festival
Thu-Jun-18 Telluride, CO Telluride Bluegrass Festival

March brings a new record and tour from Say Hi

Formally Say Hi To Your Mom, Eric Elbogen chose to shorten to simply Say Hi for his 2007 release The Witches and the Glitch, which along three other previously releases were distributed through Elbogen's own Euphobia Records. Two years laters, however, that is not the case. Say Hi now has a home at the lovely Barsuk Records.

On March 3rd everyone can get their hands on his
latest record Oohs & Ahhs, an album which is shaping up to be one of my favorite records of the year (full review to come later in the week). Starting March 6th, Say Hi will be heading to a town near you, with a ceremorial stop at this year's SXSW.
