These Arms are Snakes keeps busy with upcoming record releases

Seattle's These Arms are Snakes are on a roll. With their latest full length less than 2 months away, they have continued to record more tracks for a handful of split 7 and 12 inches.

While I mentioned awhile back that they plan on releasing a 7 inch with Minus the Bear on Vinyl Collective, two other projects are in the midst. First out of the gates is a UK only 7" with the band Tropics with TAAS contributing a newbie entitled "Meet Your Mayor" that is said to be a attack on the Mayor of Seattle.

The band has also been in the studio lately recording two other tracks for a split 12 inch with their labelmates the metal math boys of Russian Circles. The record will be limited to 1000 pressings and more than likely will only be available via their live shows.

'Frontier(s)' release a handful of rough cuts

Kentucky's Frontier(s) have been kind enough to release a few rough slices of some tracks they have been working on. As you know by now from reading A Week at the Most, Frontier(s) is the resurrection of former Elliott front man Chris Hidgon. Need I say more. Please do yourself a favor and listen now.

Bridge & Tunnel's Jeff Cunningham fashions 'Thousandaires'

If you have had a chance to hear the amazing record East/West by Bridge and Tunnel, then you have by now likened to the vocal stylings of singer Jeff Cunningham. I am sure by now you are hankering for some more tunes by this man. Thats okay, my friends. Look no further than his latest side project Thousandaires. Not to be confused with some fellas from Ireland, these boys hail from the States and also features members from Get Bent and Halo Fauna.

They have thus far released only a 3-track EP which graciously can be downloaded for free from the fine folks over at If You Make It. So what are you waiting for? Go get your hands on this debut Thousandaires recording now.

Sebastien Grainger - Sebastien Grainger & the Mountains

Sebastien Grainger has soul. That's right, deep down inside the man wants to be the next James Brown or at the very least Prince. His latest reincarnation Sebastien Grainger & the Mountains is sure proof to the fact. Don't expect Death From Above cause that is most definitely not what you are going to get. If you have followed Grainger since his split from DFA, then you know exactly what you are getting yourself into.

Tracks like "I'm all the rage" and "Ways to Come Home" have been floating around in various demo forms for quite some time now. The album just seems to mesh well together. It just flows. Sure, it was an odd choice to use a live recording of "I'm all the rage" for the final release but it never seems to pull you away too far from enjoying the record as a whole. Grainger even chooses to give you a little ode to early Death From Above with "Niagara", a screamy yet still rather soulful sounding track found half way through the record. The album ends with a bit of a tease of his side project The Rhythm Method, which takes his viably danceable Prince sound to a whole new level. Entitled "Renegade Silence", the cut can also be found on a UK released 7 inch of the same name.

Standout tracks are clearly the straight up rockin' "Who Do We Care For", the catchy as all hell "I Hate My Friends", and "(I am like a) River", which even manages to include a little metal guitar solo. Previously released on his digital EP, "Ways to Come Home" and "American Names" are equally satisfying additions to Grainger's full-length debut.

So what are you waiting for? Pre-order the album now at Saddle Creek Records. Sebastien Grainger & the Mountains hits retailers October 21st.

MGMT to work with The Chemical Brothers

As I had mentioned a little while back, Brooklyn's MGMT are in the early development stage of their second record. While the album is still way off from hitting the studio, Spin has broke news that the duo has at least found an unlikely companion to work with on their follow-up to Oracular Spectacular - the UK based eletronic legends The Chemical Brothers, who have been hand-picked to give the band a new sound for album numero dos. It should be interesting to see where this will take them.
