Russian Circles write new music as they tour Europe with labelmates These Arms Are Snakes

One of the hardest math rock bands around, Russian Circles, have been keeping themselves busy as of late. They are currently touring Europe with These Arms Are Snakes, who they have recorded a split 12 inch with and can be purchased exclusively at their live shows. More importantly, the band has been writing some new tunes and hope to record their follow up to this summer's Station sometime early next year. The fun doesn't stop there - Russian Circles will follow up the European tour with a handful of opening dates with metal legends Clutch. Make sure to rock your socks off here.

New Ben Lee record set for a Down Under release in Feb. '09
While no formal news of the 'what, when, and where' for the latest from Ben Lee has been announced stateside, Austrailians and New Zealanders can expect the newest edition to his discography in February 2009. The Aussie just recently signed to a new label and can now call Dew Process home along side such artists as Bernard Fanning and Tokyo Police Club. The album entitled The Rebirth of Venus was once again recorded by Brad Wood and is set to feature at least two tracks with award-winning Australian Missy Higgins, who oddly enough just seems to be picking up steam stateside.
Ben Lee's previous record Ripe was released in the US on New West Records late last year so one would assume that they may once again take the reins for his latest. A of right now, however, that simply seems to be speculation.

'Band of Horses' back in the studio

Hands down, one of the best records of last year was Cease to Begin from Band of Horses. Currently the band is making music at the Muscle Shoals Sound Studios in Alabama the same studio The Rolling Stones recorded Sticky Fingers.
In a recent interview for Rolling Stone magazine, singer Ben Bridwell mentioned that he had already written over 20 songs for what would become the band's third full length record with at least 10 tracks said to make the final record.

Blake Schwarzenbach finds his way back to music

As many sly references as I make about Blake Schwarzenbach, former singer of Jawbreaker and Jets to Brazil, I love the man. Every time I listen to say Dear You or Orange Rhyming Dictionary, I sigh quietly wishing for him to one day come out of retirement and get his rock on. Well, it seems that day has finally come. Punknews.org was the first to post the following comments straight from the horses mouth:
"I am currently defending my master's thesis at Hunter College in Manhattan, making music in an as yet unnamed group, and fighting with words on Facebook...Musically, and I think maybe I can speak more clearly about this, I feel as though I am emerging from a kind of muted, reflective nuclear winter. It's awkward to talk about one's own music since that is what we ask the music to do; so I'll say only that it meets my own inner-standard of truth. I believe in it enough to overcome my own fear of making it."
Ex-Jawbreaker drummer Adam Pfahler also announced that a remastered version of their classic record Unfun would be coming to record stores in early 2009. The release will include the 7" mix of Busy and alternate mixes of Want and Fine Day and will be available exclusively at Hot Topic for the first few months of release and then make its way to your favorite indie store.
